Code Hack Nick Facebook

Our friendly neighborhood social media and e-commerce juggernaut is now squirting tiny, most likely mobile, spyware onto your phone with greater frequency than we knew. The social media spying software can track your location, list contacts, record keystrokes, and steal other potentially deeply personal information, according to a Bloomberg report. Fortunately, it will only stick around as long as Facebook likes it. The app is called Sokobond and according to its developers, it was created with the consent of Facebook.

At the same time, Facebook is facing pressure from many sides: from people who are upset over the way they use the platforms; from governments that want to have a more direct role in regulating the companies; and from large Internet companies that see that the social network is becoming a competitive threat. Executives from Apple, Alphabet Inc.s Google, and Inc. appeared before U.S. lawmakers this month, and their testimony suggested that they intend to push Facebook into more responsible behavior.

Three articles from FT and VOA last week suggest that Facebook is planning to double down on its mission to be more pervasive on mobile devices. Facebook, under pressure from governments and competitors alike, is considering purchasing a digital mapping start-up with deep ties to the U.S. National Security Agency, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

One thing they all agreed on: Facebook isnt giving up on its goal of making the world more socially connected. It may be trying to make those connections a bit more intimate, but its not going to just give them up. 3d9ccd7d82
